The excitement is building... |
So... for the past 4 years we've been taking our youth from Kenmure on a youth weekend every year in February... we go to an adventure centre somewhere in scotland. The last 3 years we've been at the Compass Christian Centre in Glenshee, this year for a change we've opted to got to the Abernethy Trust Centre in Barcaple. It's not been without it's challenges so far, but i'm really looking forward to getting there and getting into it all =)
Our theme for the weekend is 'This is our God'. The idea behind this is that we have such a huge diversity amongst the young people (both age - P7-S6 and spiritual maturity - no Christian understanding to passionate for living for God) and so we've gone for this theme as it will hopefully allow us to really enable all groups to engage with God... either for the first time, or deepen a relationship they already have with God =)... The plan is to have 5 teaching sessions, each looking at who God is. Friday night - God is Love Saturday morning - God is a Stronghold Saturday evening - God is a Redeemer Sunday morning - God is Truth Sunday afternoon - God is unending The intention is to start each session with a big sheet of paper with the characteristic on it i.e. 'Love' and get the yp all to tell us what they think this means and write that onto it... Then we'll unpack what it means for God. So really looking forward to that =)
Aside from the sessions we have activities too =) so we'll be doing various team challenges, abseiling, zip wire... it's going to be lots of fun... yes we'll all be knackered by the time we get home, but it only happens once a year =)
stay tuned for thoughts after the weekend =)Labels: Barcaple, God, kenmure youth, Youth Band, youthwork |

A wonderful day... |
And so it has been... woke up this morning and did some stuff for work... took abbie a walk only to bump into a gd friend that i hadn't seen for a while 'n got to chat for a wee bit which was nice... took abbie home, when down to the station to catch a train into town. Had a really gd meeting with my line-manager, then came back 'n picked up Pammie on my way back to the flat... did yet another wonderful bible study on Nehemiah with her... had some tea, headed to band... Band was gd... then back to the house 'n got stuff baked for the GB tomorrow night... this time we're raising funds for those going to LUWERO... so yeh, tbh it's all gd.
I'm currently uploading a couple of videos of me 'n Pammie baking for the LUWERO stuff... i'll post them once they're up =)Labels: baking, BIble study, busy, work, Youth Band |

Back tracking... |
Ok... so since i've been meaning to blog about stuff and haven't been I feel that since I have a wee bit of spare time i shall back-blog now... lol.
As you all know, it's been a very busy few months, not that that's anything new I guess, but for some reason it has felt busier than the usual... but before I went home for Easter break, I was helping some friends for church move stuff from storage back into their house. They've had a massive extension put on their house over the past 6 months, and so most of their belonging were in storage for the duration of the work. But when we were moving stuff I came across a Yellow Teapot!!!!!!!
Now i'm not embarrassed to admit that as a child I loved to play with little figures and make them talk and sing 'n stuff... But the discovery of this big yellow teapot just put me right back to being little and playing with my yellow teapot... I don't know where that tea pot is now - my dad thinks its in the loft. I'm thinking it's probably not survived the many emptyings of that loft space for the Christian Aid sales at Kemnay Church, but perhaps it has. Finding it made me smile loads though - I could hardly contain my excitement! Even held it on my lap the whole way back to bishopbriggs from the storage place (and made sure that all of the people inside it (and the dog) were comfortable! *cough*) BUt yes. Was most definitely the highlight of my day XD
Next thing which I feel is important to highlight is... one night the youth band managed to get through 17 songs! yes i said SEVENTEEN!!!!! Considering we're meant to start at 7:30pm and the yp usually faff about so we don't start until nearer 8pm it's not bad to have done that many songs in just an hour! (we finish at 9pm). Therefore I feel that this needed to be recognised as an achievement, hence the picture LOL!
That aside... there has been an addition to the Buchan presence in Glasgow... Meet Archie. *grins* Have been thinking about getting a car for a while, but just been waiting for the opportunity of the right car at the right price. He's wonderful though. It's been great having more freedom, and dare I say it having the option to use the car if it's raining to avoid a soaking. But he's perfect. I'm not sure that tall people like to ride in him much, but he's just perfect for little me *grins* and Abbie enjoys a ride in him from time to time too! So yus - happy times!!
Although slightly concerning (hehehe) Would be that TWICE this week i have been 'stalked' in the car by girls from the church LOL. Was funny last night - they followed us to ASDA and then stalked us around asda also. 'Twas amusing. But yes...
back to more recent events - i've already been out today putting Christian Aid Envelopes through doors in the Parish.... Was roasting hot though! Funny how the weather just can't decide what it's wanting to do atm. But yeh, I'll have to go round the doors to try and get them back at some point this week. I'm thinking an evening. Possibly Wednesday evening or even Friday evening. Not decided yet.
But tonight is band as usual... although i'm thinking it may be quieter that usual seeing as most of the exams have started now for the teenagers. But tomorrow is the GB display rehearsal. The girls are doing fab with the song they're doing - it's gonna be good fun i think!Labels: Archie, big yellow teapot, christian aid, Youth Band |

ASM |
Am absolutely knackered today... thought i was a lot better when i was out this morning to the dentist (yes, i did remember this time) but it would appear not... my afternoon has been very unproductive - other than watching Shaun of course! oh yes... and an attempt at catching up on the laundry, and the flats pretty tidy too for a change i guess, so i suppose it's just been an unproductive day work wise *lol*! It was a good walk this morning though *grins* although there's quite a cold wind out there today... But yes, the usual tonight. Youth Band and then back here... Dad's coming to stay again tonight...
ooooh can't remember if i mentioned already, but the way it turns out, I have to give a wee short presentation at the ASM at church on Wednesday night... The ASM is the 'Annual Stated Meeting' which is basically when all of the congregation get the opportunity to go along to this meeting and hear reports from the Congregational board and the session and minster etc... the etc of course being me! *eeeeek* Och it'll be fine, i know it will be... i'm basically just condensing down what I did for my report to the Kirk Session last week... so no panic (how do you spell panic??? that some how doesn't look right, but then putting a 'k' on the end doesn't either *is confused*). As far as my report is concerned it more about informing people what i do... coz they aren't always aware, or directly see the fruit, so yeh... it'll be interesting. Just so long as Iain doesn't leave me up there to be quizzed like i'm on a firing line, it'll be ok. It's quite amusing actually coz usually you can only speak at this meeting if you're a member... which of course i'm not, so the fact that i'm actually doing a report at it kinda actually amuses me... yes i am just that sad! *lol*Labels: ASM, dentist, Shaun the Sheep, tired, Youth Band |
