| Weather... |
Yep its decided = i'm pretty much decided that I prefer being cold to being hot. It's soooo hot outside, which is fine, but i'm far more enjoying the coolness of my flat. And when I walked into the wee tesco down the road earlier to get stamps it was a beautiful feeling walking into the aircon.
I wonder how on earth I'm going to survive in Uganda where something like aircon will def not exist. I know Jen's told me before that you do actually acclimatise... thats a gd thing I suppose... altho I do not think that I am a normal person when it comes to being able to cope with heat. heh.
Anyway - we're getting there (slowly) with getting things sorted for going away. Met some of the group of 4 that are coming with us from Duncancraig High School on Tuesday night, so that's something, and at long last i've managed to get around to sorting out my travel Insurance... Have even managed to get some bits 'n bobs clothes-wise which is gd... Now i have to find a way of asking my bank for £200 of VERY good condition BANK OF ENGLAND notes... Apparently thats what you use to exchange your money in Uganda... also need to get me some Euros - perhaps I can nick some off of dad seeing as I gave him 30 Euros after I got back from Corfu a couple of years back... LOL
oh yeh, and insect repellant - deet spray apparently - can't decide whether I should get the 60ml or 120ml bottle tho? any takers? Can get that off of amazon tho, so no big deal there.
Passport away to get visa at the moment - so thats fine...
My sister's getting me my Malarone (Anti-malarials)
hmmm. Can't think of what else I need to do... it is getting crazily close tho.. 33 days - eeeeeeeep.Labels: hot, LUWERO, summer, sun, uganda |

| LUWERO Uganda... |
Well i haven't really talked about this properly on here yet...
But in July... the first 2 full weeks, I'm traveling to Uganda with a group of senior Girls Brigade and Boys Brigade young people... I've been pondering the possibility of this since about September/October when the BB captain at my church asked me if I would consider going along as he had wanted to see if any of the girls from the GB were wanting to go along this time.
Jimmy (BB Captain) took a group of 4 senior BB boys 2 years ago

but, he had wanted to give the opportunity for some girls to get to go too, which is always exciting... I had kinda hoped that I would get the opportunity to go to Uganda some time, because Gabriel is doing amazing things out there...
I first met Gabriel when I was in my first year at ICC back in 2003/2004. He was just starting off with the project back then... and if memory serves he was back in the UK trying to raise funds to buy the plot of land where the project was going to be based.
I feel i should probably explain what the project is... Basically Luwero Community Ministries consists of a 5-fold vision. Firstly a church, then a farm, a Primary school (which currently has around 300 pupils, there are hopes for a secondary school also), a health clinic (which will hopefully be up and going by the time we're they're in July) and an Orphanage. See here for more info... http://luwerocommunityministries.com/
But the mission has all started now for me... today i sit here with two rather sore arms thanks to the first lot of injections yesterday. heh. More next week....
but i guess I should get on... I'm sure i'll tell you all more about this as time goes on =)Labels: Gabriel, Jags, LUWERO, uganda, work |

| An exhausting weekend with silver lining... |
Yeh... so this past weekend has been the most crazy weekend in a while. I haven't feel this exhausted and achy... (although i'm feeling a lot better than i was by the end of Saturday and yesterday i'm still feeling it today)...
So Saturday saw me bag packing for going to LUWERO the whole at the Tesco in St Rollox... It was long, but gd. Time actually passed surprisingly quickly if i'm honest... but at the same time, my legs were dead by the end of it. For some reason these days standing still for long periods of time exhausts me, which is ridiculous considering I used to have to stand for 4-6 hours at a time (easy, sometimes more) when I worked at Alldays.
but anyway... the silver lining here? We raised £864 :-O nice one eh?!
but anyway then had to make pudding for the meeting i was going to at 7pm heh... it was an ok meeting but i think i can safely safe that folks were tired, so it probably wasn't as productive as it should have been. Then I had to come home and finish off something for the Bible Class the next morning... i gave up on that rather quickly though and just went to bed completely exhausted.
Then Sunday... woke up, got to church for 9:30am and got things set up for Bible Class... had folk tell me i looked exhausted (thanks! i thought) finished there, came home and took abbie a walk (i love my pooch but that walk hurt, a lot) and came back to lunch and finishing off prep for the service in the evening, which annoyingly ended up taking up pretty much all of the afternoon, which meant no break ARGH! So was back to the church by 4:30pm to make sure things were sorted before yp started arriving the back of 5pm... only they didn't. the deal was, we were there, set up and ready to play for 5:15pm... we didn't even start practicing until nearer 5:50pm... can u sense my frustration?!
But we got there... the service went really well - twas nice.
afterwards tho a couple of things happened which just blew me away...
I dunno if i've explained this on here, but bottom line is that I'm hoping to go to LUWERO in Uganda with the young people... only the church have declined to pay anything towards it, which unfortunately put doubt into whether i was going to get to go.. I can't afford to save for something as huge as that, so it was kinda a big deal...
but my mum reminded me that if i was meant to be there, then i would be and that I should just pay my deposit (which i already had from my CHristmas money, so thanks everyone who gave me money for Christmas) and that the rest would come... So that night I stepped out in faith and paid the deposit hoping that the rest would come... which is kinda funny coz i'd spent the whole of the Deep Impact weekend 'n beyond praying for more faith...
but yeh... last night... a very gd friend of mine came up to me after the service with a n envelope which i thought was odd, and she gave it to me with a huge grin on her face... i asked if i was meant to open it there and then, and got the vibe that i should lol, only to find a wee card in it (which was very sweet) at which point she said 'there's something else in there too' and i found a cheque for quite a substantial amount of money... i was quite in shock... 'a little something to get you started on your walk of faith' said the card.... its overwhelming thinking of it even now....
anyway - so then we had Anathallo... which was great. their video project is REALLY coming on, am lovin' it... and I love how some of them come out with the most profound ideas and don't even realise it... its just soooo COOL! After that we spent some time looking at Prayer and that was really cool too... another example of me trying to push the boat out a bit... I don't want these kids to be too comfy, if we don't have challenge then we don't grow....
but anyway afterwards I was clearing up and I was about to put my laptop (which was sitting on the stage) into my bag and when i picked it up i found an envelop and on it was my name... inside was an A4 piece of paper with a large image of the Ugandan flag and a heap of cash. I don't know who it was from... I could try and guess but they didn't leave a message or a note so i can only assume that they want to remain anonymous...
I love it tho. it was such a hard weekend, emotionally, mentally and physically, but spiritually? i was built up hugely, right at the end =) LOVE it! =)Labels: Anathallo, God, God's provision, LUWERO, work |

| Fundraising and defrosting.... |
I was working last night... We had our Girls Brigade and because one of the leaders wasn't going to be there, I offered to put together a wee presentation about the earthquake in Haiti... not necessarily about all the facts that the girls would have heard about through the media, but just helping them to realise that it is happening to real people. People like you and me...
In order to do this I had spent yesterday afternoon doing some research... did you know that Haiti is a grand total of 4,322 miles away from Glasgow?

It seems a long way away doesn't it? BUt at the same time, for a short period the media brings it into our living room. the pain, the anguish. But it is only for a short period. In a few weeks time we may not have forgotten about Haiti, but we won't be confronted with images of the destruction everyday... and lets be honest, most people will forget. But for the families who were broken on that awful day, they'll be remembering for a long time yet.
But yeh, the GB have been doing a general theme of 'Same but different' this year... So i did the presentation bringing questions etc into it which helped them to realise how the people in Haiti were the same as us, but what was different. I showed them a Video by Tearfund at the end of the presentation (it wasn't that long), and at the end of the video the person appealed for people not to underestimate what they could do to help with the disaster in Haiti....
...so after the video I posed the question 'So what can we do?' to the girls...
Now I asked that question wanting more than anything for them all to realise that if nothing else, at least they could pray (which they did)... But last night the girls (as part of their service badge) had been asked to take along cakes etc which they had made in order to sell to the other sections, leader and parents in order to raise some money for the GB and BB folk going to LUWERO in Uganda later in the year... But one of the girls said 'Why don't we send the money we raise tonight to help in Haiti'... and that was a moment I will remember for a while. Yes I had considered asking the girls if they would like to do that, Yes I could have suggested it to them... But for them to realise that Haiti is currently a bigger need and that we could do something else in the future for the group going to luwero just showed me that they understood.
There are so many things seeking out money. But sometimes, you just need to give to those who need it even more.
There was a Haitian lady on the news the other day... she'd come across some bodies in a dumping pit after the earthquake which had obviously been dumped there, and although none of them were her family we was upset.. she said to the reporter...
"But they are all our brothers and sisters. We are all made by the one God."
Amen. May we act and respond in such a way that demonstrates that fact =)
ps Haiti... just over £60 coming your way... a big achievement for the girls =) - hope it helps!Labels: fundraising, GB, Haiti, LUWERO |

| Reunions, events and all the usual stuff... |
Yes so... it's been a while... so this will potentially be a rather large post... so beware.
The last couple of weeks as you may have guessed have been excessively busy, like almost to stupid to be sane busy... but it's over and I have survived, and I have God to thank for that along with my wonderful team at Kenmure who whenever I've asked them to do something they've done it fabulously well without much complaint XD
So lets go back to the beginning... the 27th-29th of March was our Mission reunion weekend down in troon... you may not have picked this up before now but for the last couple of year Kenmure have had a big presence on the mission team which leads childrens and youth work down in Troon at the end of the summer.Last year was my first year of properly co-leading and was a fab year! We'd been trying to get a date in the diary that suits to the Troon lot and Kenmure for aaaaaages (since like last September!) but this was the weekend we got! Was a fab weekend again of fun and silliness as well as prayer and bible study and seeking God's plan for the future. At one point Mack and I decided that it would be fun to have some gingerbread men to decorate for supper one night after the youthwork! Was great fun lol - the guys on the team seemed to enjoy it too! LOL. I even made one for Ron the minister at the church... i can assure you that his gingerbread man looked very much like him once i was finished decorating it! LOL! So yes... a great weekend... but also one which saw a lot of staying up late and then ending up rather shattered... When we got home on the Sunday afternoon we then also walked into having to do an Elevate event - that's a whole other kettle of fish though.
So yes... that was last weekend... However, this weekend has been interesting too! As part of the ministry in Kenmure we're always keen to look at ways which we can help young people to help those less fortunate than themselves... help them be more aware of world issues which we can all-so-readily become deaf or apathetic to, sometimes even sheltered from... One of our ways of doing this is to do a 24 hour event which is sponsored for a Charity and get someone to come along and tell us more about the work that that charity is doing. So this year we again supported LUWERO http://luwerocommunityministries.com/ and had a guy from our BB who visited the project last summer come along a share a bit about it all... It was great having him come and share - hopefully it also gave the young people more of an understanding and passion to raise money for it. This year however the event was 'lose one of your senses for 24 hours'... Some tried to be deaf, but it didn't work so well that way so we ended up with some losing speech, some lost their sense of space (in other words they were tied to someone else for the duration of the event) and other fasted (didn't have food). So it was a lonnnnnnng 24 hours. But definitely worth it. I'm hoping that we'll have a healthy sized cheque to send away by the end of the month. We had lots of activities, crafts, big hall games, computer games, a prayer room with interactive prayer stations, services throughout, and an acoustic worship session... then at the end of the 24 hours we broke the fast etc together with a 'meal' of soup, bread and cheese with some sweeter stuff too to give those who were fasting a boost... But it was knackering... After we eventually finished cleaning the church for the service this morning (no one had a CLUE that we'd had the event this weekend coz the church was so clean and tidy *grins*) i eventually got home at about 7pm (I had gone to the church to set up on Friday at 2pm so altogether that means i was at the church for 29 hours straight!) needless to say after a brief time checking emails etc I flaked out on the bed and didn't wake up until 3am at which point i realised that I had fallen asleep without getting changed first!!! That was soon sorted though and i got back into bed and slept right through till 10am this morning. It turns out that my mum had phone the flat AND texted me last night.. needless to say i heard neither. Thankfully Abbie was rather forgiving and let me sleep. Needless to say... IF you feel that you would like to support us, like i already mentioned it was a sponsored event... so please do sponsor me, or support LUWERO directly. It's definitely worth it! For just £15 a month you can sponsor and orphan so that they can go to school and get an education that they wouldn't otherwise receive. See thats one of the things we focused on this year... the fact that despite the current climate with everyone tightening their purse strings we are NOT in poverty. There are people a LOT worse of that us in the world, and it's about time we woke up and realised that and did something about that! Its not beyond us, so why do we act as though it is while we have our big cars and big houses and our constant need to by things that we don't actually need, but just because we want more, and more and more. Ok so i'll stop ranting - but you'll hopefully get the jist. =)
That aside I discovered a LOVELY park on Monday that I'd never been before and its just a 10 minute walk from the flat!!! It's sooo beautiful and Abbie loves it coz she gets to run about off the lead.. We went there on monday to explore a bit.. it's Springburn park which i knew was there but I'd never realised how big or how beautiful it was! Abbie loved it though - was just her cup of tea being able to run about off of the lead and see (and attempt to run after) the birds and squirrels... She did look at a Swan at one point but very quickly backed off when it started hissing at her LOL - what a clever dog she is!
But yeh... this afternoon since i didn't get to walk her yesterday (she was with Sheena and George while I was at the 24 hour event) I decided that a long walk in Springburn Park was in order... so off we went... When we got there i discovered that there were colour-coded trails... so today, we did the black trail which was 2 miles long!!! Was wonderful as it took us around most of the park...abbie even made a friend or two along the way lol... but while we were there we came across something rather cool!!! Ok so Abbie didn't think much about it, but I thought it was marvelous! You may remember me rambling on about Stargate SG-1 and perhaps Stargate Atlantis a few post back... well today we found a stargate in Springburn park... ok so it's not a REAL stargate (LOL) but it made me smile none-the-less!!! But just imagine even if it was... would be quite amusing that it would be found in Springburn park of all places LOL.
So anyway... This coming week it hopefully going to be a much quieter one that the previous few months... I plan to read... catch up on work stuff that has been neglected due to my rather busy work schedule, catch up with some friends before I go north for my holiday and the thing that i really hope to achieve, is that i'm hoping that i'll make it to ALL (or as much as is physically possible) of the Bishopbriggs Churches together holy week services. They've always had joint services, and i've even been involved in some of them at Kenmure, but i've never been able to attend them all, but because of the way things are working out this year I may just manage it since we don't have club running during the holidays! I've heard good things about some of them, so i'm hoping for good things!
but anyway... I shall love you and leave you all. My hope for you is that at this Easter season you will come to know and understand the sacrifice of Gods Son Jesus Christ in order to save you, and that you will have Joy in the fact that he rose again!!!
toodles.Labels: 24 hour event, Abbie, LUWERO, reunion, Springburn park, Troon, walk |

| *yay* |
I have my bank card at last... and it came relatively early in the day which means that i'm not stuff in the flat with a rather energetic pup for the rest of the day *grins*
My latest ER boxset came yesterday *grins* - i haven't seen this series at all, so am enjoying that...
I got to WIG last night... Was good. 1 Timothy 4 - all about false teachers 'n stuff... i have to say though we spent more time discussing other issues surrounding the passage than actually getting all of the questions done, but there was a lot of food for thought and a good session. I kinda wish i had a bible study group like that more often... will have to work on that i think. Anyone know of any wednesday night Bible Studies in the b'briggs area? wishful thinking i reckon.
Am currently trying to learn some finger picking for songs on guitar.... current choices being seven nation army by the white stripes (such a gooooood riff!!!!) and tears in heaven... which is actually quite hard.. but i'm learning. Decided that i needed to learn how to use guitar tabs so that i can get into the groove of writing bass tabs a bit easier for one of the young people who has just started playing the bass and wants to take it along to youth band. See we've been praying for drums and bass at youth band since it started almost 4 years ago... i guess its true when they say patience pays off *grins*
Anyway - its the BB coffee morning/ toy sale tomorrow - so I've offered to do some baking... already done peppermint sqaures *yum* but gonna try some banana cake and carrot cake today i think... all exciting!!! Will have to keep some for myself *grins* its for a good cause anyway - a couple of the BB boys are going over to LUWERO in Uganda to help out there. It'll be a great experience for them for sure.
Anyway - much to be getting on with as I'll have to take Abbie to the vet to get her stitches out soon =)Labels: coffee morning, ER, guitar, LUWERO |

| relaxing... |
i'm currently relaxing... I was so exhausted last night... Was at the BB display, but by the end of it, for whatever reason, my head was thumping and I just felt like a dead weight (despite only sitting watching for the entire evening)... mind was pretty active though which was pretty annoying coz it meant that i couldn't sleep for ages... So i think today shall continue to be on of relaxation... No plans. I like it that way.
Perhaps i shall go out for a walk to get some air and go and visit Molly... we'll see.
oooooh... the LUWERO sponsor count is currently sitting at just under £1000 *grins* and more than half of the yp haven't handed their money back yet, so yeh... happy happy. *grins*Labels: 24 hour event, BB, Displays, LUWERO, Molly, tired |

| Sponsor me please? |
Look at this... isn't my brother soooo cool at making me posters 'n stuff?! *hehehe* Well this is the latest challenge *eeek* I'm fasting for 24 hours, will be in fancy dress for at least half, will be trying to keep 20-30 teenagers happy in a relatively confined space for a long period of time, will more than likely get very little sleep, and will have to stay happy and hyper for the duration *heheh* oh my... I really must be crazy...
... but no. I'm not crazy. there's a very good reason for this... A community in Uganda, where a lot of the children have lost both of their parents to AIDs, and they them selves have HIV and need medication to stay well... We're going to be supporting the LUWERO community project. It's a 5-fold project, of a friend of mine who was at college over my first year there... He's from Uganda and had a vision of how he could work for God in his own community. There's a church, a school (well it's partly there, still more to be built as funds come in) a farm, and hopes for a clinic and a orphanage. My hope is that the young people at Kenmure will reallllly be able to make a difference... in the words of Gabriel...
"nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something"
And this is our chance to work together to do something... And i hope and pray that it all goes well, and that we do do something.
You might not be able to be there to take part... but you can do something too by sponsoring me... please do. It's for a really good cause.Labels: LUWERO, Phil, sponsor |

| plodding along... |
Am feeling a tad flat this morning. Really quite tired, and my jaw is really very sore. It's a miserable day outside too *ick* I've got a rant about a thing i saw on the news about Jesus' apparent bones being found...but i shall perhaps save that rant for another time... perhaps later if i've managed to get most of my prep done for GB tonight... That of course is my plan for today coz not only do i have to sort out the session for tonight, but i really need to create an 'over view' sheet so that the girls have something to look at to remind them of key points i shall perhaps assess next week... i can't believe our 6 week program has almost finished already! Its been fun, and challanging, although yes, i have many other things to concentrate on at the moment, so i'm not going to be complaining that this big chunk of prep is going to disappear for the time being, and i can also have some of my Tuesday nights back too which will be nice *grins* Our next big event is going to be a 24 hour event in aid of LUWERO which is a 5 fold project in Uganda prodominantly helping orphans, but the community too... i'll give you more info on it, but yeh, later perhaps. Meanwhile, i should stop lazing about and go and get some work done...
oh yes... and btw, remember - no speaking on your mobile or texting if you want to avoid getting points on your license!!!!! (not that i would expect that any of you would, but yes, i've reminded you anyways... *grins*)Labels: 24 hour event, flat, GB, Jesus, LUWERO, mobile phone laws, tired, wisdom tooth |
